I know there are too many beaches to list here that are great, but for us we've been going to Seal Beach lately.
For us, and I'm sure the rest of you, location is everything BUT also the ease of getting in and out is key, right? Seal Beach has remained to be quaint and mellow and not as hectic as alot of beaches around. There's a nice Main St. that has a bunch a places to eat and not saturated with crazy beachcombers and the like.
The parking can be tough in the lots at prime time, so we like to drive up a bit toward the north end and find a spot in one of the many perpendicular side streets to Ocean Ave. (we like 5th St), and it provides an easy walk, across the street, to the beach.
Seal Beach is great as the waves are gentle and the kiddies can walk out and play in the water without getting blasted by heavy wave breaks. They also have a good amount of active lifeguards that seem to care about the well beings of the beach goers compared to a lot of other places. There's a lot for the kiddies to see as there are numerous wind and kite surfers out there.
