Basically, it's a dinner show where you get seated and and watch an exciting pirate show while you get served dinner (chicken or pork..the last time..and the servings are HUGE). The show is Broadway-theatrical with alot of acting, fighting, singing and acrobatics. It's pretty entertaining and the kiddies will love it.
Once you arrive you get assigned a "color", this will separate you into your respective pirate team, there are four (red, purple, gold, green) from what I remember. There usually are good deals if you look in the L.A. Times are Google around. Normally, it's $59 for adults and $29 for kids..which can add up, but they usually offer coupons and deals in the newspaper. Like all meals these days, you can "super-size" your dinner adventure if you want to buy pirate beads, bandanas, etc..eh..I say stay away..not worth the hype. We went for $30 each person which saved us a bit.
One thing is there is a "pre-show" when you arrive. They tell you to get there at least 2 hours early, but you don't have to if you want to fore-go the pre-show. The pre-show consists of a mini swashbuckling event where the pirates do a show mid-air with some trapeze acts. They also get the male audience involved as volunteers. They also serve free appetizers by pirates walking around with trays..your various cheeses and finger foods. (It was alot better a few years ago where they had buffet-style open trays on tables..sign of the economic times I suppose).
Be prepared, the drinks ARE EXPENSIVE..this is where they get ya! You can easily spend the cost of the dinner show if you decide to load up on some pre-show apertifs..a cocktail goes for around $9..not kidding. Anyway, if it's your first time..it's worth it to see the pre-show and get your money's worth..but stay away from the booze.
