We have the privilege of living close to the Cerritos Library. It has to be one of the most beautiful public libraries I have ever seen, both inside and out. One of the biggest "attraction"(s) is the indoor aquarium. It is HUGE and beautiful (click on photo to see a larger view!) The closest thing I can think of that's near by would be the Long Beach Aquarium, but at least this one is free.
Besides the aquarium they have a separate children's library that houses all the childrens books and also has computers for the little ones. It has a life-size Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton inside as well which is pretty awesome. It has a miniature scale version of the Space Shuttle and then has this humongous tree right in the middle that kids can go right inside to read. Let's just say there is plenty of things to do and see for at least an hour.
The library itself is gorgeous and feels like something that belongs at the university level. If you haven't checked it out I'd highly recommend it.
